How to Dye Lace Closure and Not Your Lace (Video Tutorial)

Sep 23, 2017Dolce Mateo

Hi honeys! In this tutorial, I'll show you how to easily dye your lace closure without getting dye on the lace. This method takes about 1.5 hrs to complete. Watch the video or follow the steps and pictures below.

What you'll need:

  1. Gloves
  2. Hair Clips
  3. Conditioner
  4. Hair Dye
  5. Pins
  6. Dye Brush

Step 1: Pin Down Closure

Get your cork mannequin and tie a plastic bag around it so the dye you'll apply later doesn't penetrate. Take a push pin and secure it to the mannequin.

Step 2: Add Conditioner

Get your brush and squeeze a generous amount of conditioner on the brush. Start from the top and apply conditioner to the entire lace. Try not to get conditioner on the hair.

Step 3: Dye

Turn closure over and pin down again to secure the closure from moving as you dye. Put on your glove and begin parting the hair and holding down with your clips. Add the dye to the brush and starting from bottom of the closure, begin brushing the dye onto the hair from the root to the ends. Be extra careful not to get a lot of dye on the lace. Even if you do, it will rinse out however this does help make the job easier.

Step 4: Comb

After you apple the color take a comb and comb the color through so that the dye coats every strand.

Step 5: Repeat Steps 3 and 4

Continue dyeing and combing the dye throughout the entire closure all the way to the front.

Step 6: Process Color for 1 Hour

Step 7: Rinse

Rinse hair at a cool temperature, but one that's tolerable to the skin. Cool water is less likely to cause the dye to fade. Wait until the water runs clear to stop rinsing.

Final Results! (After Wig Install)

I hope you enjoyed and learned some new skills from this tutorial! If you have any questions or want to tell me how I did, please leave me a comment below. Thank you honeys!
